Accinosco
is a collective of performing artists, designers, and
musicians dedicated to creating groundbreaking original works
that meld music, text, technical and theatrical design, and video
with unbelievable fact and outrageous fiction. Accinosco
members include composer and performer Cynthia Hopkins, designers
Jim Findlay and Jeff Sugg, singer Susan
Oetgen,
and the band Gloria Deluxe (Kristin
Mueller,
Josh Stark, Philippa Thompson, and Karen Waltuch). This core group
works frequently with a host of collaborating artists including
lighting designers Jason
Boyd and Tyler Micoleau;
sound designers Jim Dawson and Jamie McElhinney; director and filmmaker DJ
Mendel;
choreographers Diane Madden, Annie
B Parson,
and Jordana
Che Toback;
costume designer Tara Webb; production coordinator Anthony Cerrato; and performers and musicians including
Steve Ciuffo, Curtis Hasselbring, Ben Holmes, John Hopkins, Sam Kulik, Jony Perez, Scott Sheperd, James Sugg, and Gary Wilmes.
Accinosco
emerged through the creation of their seminal and acclaimed work,
Accidental Nostalgia,
which premiered in March 2004 at St.
Ann's Warehouse (Brooklyn, NY). The group's second show,
Must Don't Whip 'Um
(conceived as a prequel/sequel to Accidental
Nostalgia)
premiered in January 2007 at the Walker
Art Center (Minneapolis, MN). Accinosco's most recent creation, The Success of Failure (or, The Failure of Success) - Part III of The Accidental Trilogy,
which serves as both prequel and sequel to Parts I (Accidental
Nostalgia)
and II (Must Don't
Whip 'Um) - premiered in April 2009 at the Walker Art Center and at St.
Ann's Warehouse in May-June 2009.
